Die Gäste werden per Tenderboot nach Skala gebracht, dem alten Hafen am Fuß der Klippen, und fahren mit der Seilbahn oder gehen den Serpentinenweg hinauf nach Fira, dem Hauptort der Insel. Die Ausblicke von oben sind steil und unmittelbar: weiße Gebäude, die zum tiefblauen Wasser abfallen. Oia an der Nordspitze ist bei Sonnenuntergang am vollsten, lohnt aber den Andrang wegen der Aussicht. Die antike Stadt Akrotiri, um 1600 v. Chr. unter Vulkanasche begraben, ist gut erhalten und unter einem modernen Dach für Besucher geöffnet. Am Red Beach führt ein kurzer, steiler Pfad zu einer Bucht unter roten Vulkanklippen. Assyrtiko-Wein, aus Reben auf Vulkanboden gewonnen, ist das Markenzeichen der Insel und passt gut zu gegrilltem Oktopus in einer Taverne auf den Klippen.
