Die St.-Johannes-Kokathedrale, außen schlicht und innen üppig vergoldet, hat im Oratorium zwei Gemälde von Caravaggio. Ein Aufzug nahe dem Kreuzfahrtterminal bringt die Gäste in die Oberstadt. Der Großmeisterpalast und seine Waffenkammer nehmen eine Seite der Republic Street ein, der Hauptstraße. Die Upper Barrakka Gardens haben eine Terrasse mit Blick auf den Grand Harbour und einen Kanonensalut zur Mittagszeit. Mdina, die alte Hauptstadt im Landesinneren, ist eine ummauerte Stadt auf einem Hügel mit stillen Gassen und mittelalterlicher Architektur. Pastizzi, blättrige Teigtaschen mit Ricotta oder Erbsenpüree, werden für fast nichts in winzigen Läden verkauft. Die Währung ist der Euro.
