Ships either dock at Phuket Deep Sea Port or tender from an offshore anchorage, depending on the vessel. The port area is industrial, so most people head out by taxi or minibus to the beaches and attractions. Patong Beach is the busiest and most developed strip, with hotels, bars, and water sports operators. Kata and Karon are quieter alternatives with good swimming.
