## About Sept-Iles

Sept-Îles is a port town on Quebec's North Shore, sitting on a large bay along the St. Lawrence River where it begins to widen toward the Gulf. The town was originally a fur trading post and is now a major iron ore shipping port. The bay is dotted with seven islands, which give the town its name, and the Île Grande Basque is accessible by water taxi for hiking and picnicking.

The Old Trading Post (Vieux-Poste), a reconstructed fur trade site, covers the region's early history. The Musée Régional de la Côte-Nord has exhibits on Innu First Nations culture and the area's natural history. Whale watching is possible in the St. Lawrence, with minke and humpback whales feeding in the cold, nutrient-rich waters. The town has a handful of restaurants serving local seafood and Quebecois cuisine. French is the primary language, and English is limited outside tourist-facing businesses.
