Invergordon sits on the Moray Firth in the Scottish Highlands, and bottlenose dolphins often swim near the ship as it comes in. The terminal has a small shop selling whisky, handcrafted jewellery, and local foods. Pipe bands and traditional dancers sometimes turn out for arriving passengers, which sets the tone for the day. The town is small and walkable from the pier. Most people use Invergordon as a base for day trips. Loch Ness is about 45 minutes by coach, and the drive through Glen Affric or past the Cromarty Firth is scenic on its own. Closer to port, the Dalmore Distillery and Glenmorangie Distillery both run tours with tastings. The Highland countryside here is green, quiet, and sparsely populated. If weather allows, the Fyrish Monument hike above the town gives broad views over the firth.
