How back-to-back cruises work

What is a back-to-back cruise?

Two or more cruises booked one after the other. The next one leaves from the port where the last one ends, often on the same day. You get a longer trip and more ports than one sailing offers.

Stay aboard

The ship ends one cruise and starts the next from the same port. You keep your cabin, skip the packing, and have the port to yourself while new guests board.

Switch ships

Leave one ship and board another, the same day or a few days later. It works across cruise lines, and gives you a day or two in the city in between.

Before you book

  • Ask for the same cabin on every cruise, and ask the line to link the bookings so you stay in one room.
  • Staying aboard? Ask about in-transit guests. Most lines let you stay on the ship on turnaround day, or go ashore without checking out.
  • Book flights last: into the first port, home from the last one. For a switch, leave time for the transfer.
  • Prices add up the lowest fare of each cruise for your guest count. Fares change, so check each cruise before you book.
