About Champagne Bay

Champagne Bay sits on the eastern shore of Espiritu Santo, Vanuatu's largest island. The beach is a long curve of white sand backed by coconut palms and green mountains. Its name comes from natural underwater springs that push fine bubbles up through the shallows near the shore, giving the water a fizzing, champagne-like effect. Ships anchor offshore and tender passengers to the beach directly, so you arrive with sand between your toes. This is a quiet, undeveloped stop. There are no hotels or resorts on the bay itself, just a few local families who set up stalls selling coconuts, sarongs, and shell jewellery when cruise ships visit. The water is warm and clear enough for snorkelling close to shore. A short walk along the beach leads to a freshwater river mouth where you can cool off. Bring cash in small denominations, as there are no ATMs. The pace here is slow, and that's the whole point.
