Eden is a small fishing town on the New South Wales coast, where the Sapphire Coast's beaches meet thick national park bushland. Ships anchor offshore and passengers tender to the wharf. The Eden Killer Whale Museum is the main attraction, telling the true story of a pod of orcas that used to help local whalers by herding baleen whales into the bay. The skeleton of Old Tom, the pod's leader, is on display. Ben Boyd National Park flanks the town on both sides, with walking trails through coastal heath to red sandstone cliffs and quiet beaches. Twofold Bay itself is good for whale watching between September and November when humpbacks pass through. The waterfront has a handful of cafés serving fresh fish and chips. Eden is compact enough to walk, though a car helps if you want to reach the national park lookouts.
