Gothenburg is Sweden's second city, built around canals and broad, tree-lined avenues. The Amerikakajen cruise terminal puts you close to the centre, and a short walk takes you to Feskekôrka, an indoor fish market inside a building that looks like a Gothic church. The stalls sell shrimp, oysters, and smoked fish, and there's a small restaurant upstairs. Haga, the oldest neighbourhood, has cobblestone streets lined with cafés that serve Hagabullen, the local oversized cinnamon bun. A Paddan canal boat tour runs through the city's waterways, passing old ships and houseboats. Liseberg, Scandinavia's biggest amusement park, is nearby if you're travelling with kids or just want a ride. The Gothenburg Museum of Art holds a solid Nordic collection. Trams run frequently and cover most of the city, and the Southern Archipelago is reachable by public ferry for a half-day island trip. Try a shrimp sandwich before you leave.
