Klaipėda is Lithuania's only seaport, and the Old Town has half-timbered buildings and cobbled streets from its centuries under German and Prussian rule. Theatre Square is the lively centre, with quirky sculptures like The Black Ghost scattered around the district. The three-masted sailing ship Meridianas is moored on the Dane River and is one of the city's landmarks. A free shuttle covers the short distance from the cruise terminal. The Curonian Spit, a UNESCO-listed sand dune peninsula, is the main draw and reachable by a short ferry from the city. The Lithuanian Sea Museum and Dolphinarium sit at the spit's northern tip. Nida, further along the spit, has wooden villas and tall sand dunes. In town, riverside cafés serve fresh Baltic fish and Lithuanian dishes. Euros are the currency, and English is widely spoken.
