Nynäshamn is a small Swedish coastal town about an hour south of Stockholm by train. The port has a floating pier, and the train station is walkable from the terminal. Most people use this stop as a base for Stockholm rather than spending the day in town. The train runs frequently and drops you near the central station, from where Stockholm's metro connects to everything. Stockholm's Gamla Stan (Old Town) has medieval streets, the Royal Palace, and the Nobel Prize Museum. The Vasa Museum has a fully intact 17th-century warship that sank on its maiden voyage. If you stay in Nynäshamn, the waterfront has cafés, a fish restaurant, and a guest harbour busy with sailing boats in summer. The Nynäsleden coastal trail has Baltic Sea views. Smoked fish and herring are the local food. Swedish krona is the currency, and cards are accepted almost everywhere.
