Antalya sits on a cliff overlooking the Gulf on Turkey's Mediterranean coast. The old quarter, Kaleiçi, has honey-coloured Ottoman houses and winding cobblestone alleys that open onto small squares with tea houses and carpet shops. Hadrian's Gate, a Roman arch from 130 AD, marks one entrance to the old town, and the views from the clifftop down to the old harbour are worth the walk. The harbour below has been converted into a marina with restaurants and boat tour operators. The Antalya Museum has one of Turkey's best archaeological collections, including finds from nearby Perge and Aspendos. The Düden Waterfalls, where the river drops directly into the sea, are about 10km east. Orange blossoms scent the streets in spring. A modern tram runs along the main boulevard. Bargaining is normal in the bazaar area. Kebabs and fresh-squeezed pomegranate juice are easy to find all over town.
