North Seymour is a low, flat island in the Galapagos, reached by a short panga ride from your ship. The wildlife here is the draw, not the scenery. Magnificent frigatebirds sit in the scrubby palo santo trees with their red throat sacs inflated like balloons during mating season, and blue-footed boobies nest right beside the walking trail, barely flinching as you pass. The loop trail is about 2 kilometres, mostly over rocky ground and tree roots, and takes about an hour and a half. Sea lions lounge on the rocks near the landing site, and land iguanas occasionally cross the path. There are no facilities, shade, or water on the island, so bring a hat, sunscreen, and a bottle. A park-certified naturalist guide accompanies every group, and wandering off the marked trail is not allowed.
