About Måløy

Måløy is a small fishing port on Vågsøy Island, on the exposed western coast of Norway. Red-painted wooden houses cluster around a sheltered harbour, backed by steep cliffs dropping into the North Sea. The town has been a centre for the fishing industry since the 1800s, and trawlers still line the docks alongside your cruise ship. The Coastal Museum documents the local fishing and maritime history, and a short drive across the bridge to the mainland leads to Vestkapp, the westernmost point on the Norwegian mainland, with wide views over open ocean. The Kannestein rock formation, shaped by centuries of wave erosion into a mushroom-like pillar, sits along the coast road and is worth a stop. Bring layers, as the wind off the North Sea can be sharp even in summer.
