Jacksonville spreads wide along the St. Johns River where it meets the Atlantic. The Dames Point Cruise Terminal is a short drive from downtown, and you'll need a car or tour to cover much ground since the city is large. Jacksonville Beach and Atlantic Beach have golden sand and rolling waves, and the boardwalk is a decent walk when the weather cooperates. The Cummer Museum of Art has an impressive collection in a historic building with riverside gardens. MOCA Jacksonville focuses on contemporary work. For food, shrimp and grits or blackened grouper at a riverside restaurant are the local standards. The Riverside and Avondale districts have independent shops and cafés worth an afternoon. Tipping at 15-20% is expected at restaurants. Public transport is limited, so a rental car or organised excursion works best.
