Ensenada is a busy port city on Baja California's Pacific coast, about 80 miles south of the US border. Ships dock directly at the port, and the city centre is a short walk or taxi ride away. Avenida Primera, the main drag, is lined with restaurants, bars, and souvenir shops. Hussong's Cantina, open since 1892, claims to have invented the margarita. La Bufadora, one of North America's largest marine geysers, is about 30 minutes south and worth the drive. Fish tacos are everywhere and most of them are excellent. The fish market near the harbour sells them fresh off the grill. Bodega Santo Tomás, one of Mexico's oldest wineries, offers tastings in its downtown cellar. The Valle de Guadalupe wine region is nearby for longer excursions. Street vendors sell handmade crafts and the prices are negotiable. Pesos are the local currency but US dollars are widely accepted.
