Lisbon spreads across seven hills along the Tagus River, and cruise ships dock at terminals near the city centre. The 25 de Abril Bridge and the Belém Tower are visible from the river approach. Alfama, the oldest district, has narrow alleys, tiled facades, and Fado music bars. The Castle of São Jorge sits at the top of the hill with views over the city and river. Belém, downstream, has the Jerónimos Monastery and the Tower of Belém, both from the Manueline era. Pastéis de Belém, the bakery next to the monastery, has been making custard tarts since 1837 and there's usually a queue. Tram 28 winds through the old neighbourhoods and is an experience in itself, though it gets crowded. The Baixa shopping district has shops and restaurants on a grid of pedestrian streets. The Mercado da Ribeira (Time Out Market) has food stalls from Lisbon's restaurants. The metro covers most of the city efficiently.
