AIDAnova is the lead ship of the Helios class and was the first cruise ship able to run entirely on liquefied natural gas, at sea as well as in port. Her keel was laid at Meyer Werft in Papenburg in September 2017 and she was christened there on 31 August 2018, but unfinished public areas pushed delivery back twice, to 12 December 2018 in Bremerhaven, and her preview cruises were cancelled. Her first voyage left Santa Cruz de Tenerife on 19 December 2018 for the Canary Islands and Madeira. In 2019 she became the first cruise ship to receive the Blauer Engel environmental label for ship design. Onboard she has the Studio X television studio for up to 500 guests and a Beach Club pool area, and a refit in Rotterdam in late 2024 added Best Pizza @ Sea inside the Fuego restaurant. Five buffets, six table service restaurants and three snack bars are included in the fare, while Rossini, the Churrascaria Steakhouse, Sushi House, Teppanyaki Asia Grill, Time Machine and the vegan restaurant charge for food.
