You wind up in Galveston, so it's worth planning a night or two there. The final stretch is open ocean, which gives you time to process everything you've seen and use the ship one last time. The route threads through 6 countries along the Caribbean coast: Spain, Portugal, Sint Maarten, Dominican Republic, Jamaica and United States. You get around 8 hours in each port, which is enough for an excursion, lunch, and some wandering around on your own. When you're not ashore, Norwegian Viva launched in 2023, so everything on board is still new. You can tell. Longer sailings have a different energy. People relax into it, stop rushing, and start actually talking to each other. An October sailing dodges the peak crowds while the weather is still cooperating. Well timed.
