Scarborough is the capital of Tobago, the smaller and quieter of the two islands making up Trinidad and Tobago. Ships either dock at the deepwater pier in town or tender to Pigeon Point beach on the island's western tip. The town is compact and hilly, with a market, a few shops, and Fort King George overlooking the harbour. Fort King George, built in the 1770s, has a small museum and views over Scarborough and the coastline. Tobago's beaches are the main draw: Pigeon Point has white sand and the distinctive thatched-roof jetty that appears on postcards, and Store Bay has beach vendors selling crab and dumplings. The Tobago Main Ridge Forest Reserve is the oldest legally protected rainforest in the Western Hemisphere. Buccoo Reef has glass-bottom boat tours and a sand bar called the Nylon Pool. The Trinidad and Tobago Dollar is the currency.
