Limassol sits on Cyprus's southern coast, and the cruise terminal is about 3km west of the old town. The medieval castle in the old town is where Richard the Lionheart reportedly married Berengaria of Navarre in 1191. The streets around the castle have restaurants, shops, and a covered market. The palm-lined marina and seaside promenade are newer additions with restaurants and bars. Kourion, about 19km west, has Greco-Roman ruins including a theatre still used for performances, set on a cliff with sea views. Amathus, closer to town, has the remains of one of Cyprus's ancient kingdoms. The Troodos Mountains inland have vineyard villages producing Commandaria wine, one of the oldest named wines in the world. For food, meze (multiple small dishes) is the standard local meal style. Taxis or a rental car work best for the day trips. Euros are the currency.
