About Isabela Island

Isabela is the largest island in the Galápagos and still volcanically active. Sierra Negra, with one of the world's biggest volcanic calderas, dominates the skyline as your ship anchors offshore. You tender ashore to a landscape where lava fields, mangrove lagoons, and white-sand beaches sit next to each other. Sea birds circle overhead, and marine iguanas line the rocky shoreline in the dozens. The Arnaldo Tupiza Breeding Centre runs a tortoise conservation programme where you can see giant tortoises at various life stages. Los Túneles, a series of lava tunnels partly submerged in the ocean, offers some of the best snorkelling in the archipelago: sea turtles, seahorses, rays, and reef sharks in clear shallow water. Concha de Perla, a natural pool near the port, is free to visit and good for a quick swim with sea lions. Bring reef-safe sunscreen and plenty of water.
