Shanghai's cruise terminal (Wusongkou or Shanghai Port International) is in the Baoshan district, about 40km from the city centre. A shuttle to the nearest metro station and then the subway takes about an hour to reach the Bund. Taxis are faster but traffic is heavy. The city is enormous, so focus on one or two areas. The Bund waterfront has the colonial-era banking buildings on one side and the Pudong skyline (Shanghai Tower, Oriental Pearl Tower, Jin Mao Tower) across the river. Nanjing Road, running west from the Bund, is the main shopping street. The French Concession neighbourhood has tree-lined streets, cafés, and art deco architecture. Yu Garden, in the old town, is a classical Chinese garden from the Ming Dynasty. Xiaolongbao (soup dumplings) are Shanghai's signature dish. The Chinese Yuan (Renminbi) is the currency.
