About Geiranger

Geiranger sits at the head of a UNESCO-listed fjord in western Norway. Most ships anchor offshore and tender passengers in, though a newer SeaWalk pier allows some vessels to dock directly. The village is small, with wooden buildings and souvenir shops around the harbour. The sail-in is the highlight for many passengers: cliff walls on both sides, waterfalls (including the Seven Sisters) dropping from high up, and snow on the peaks above the tree line. The Eagle Road (Ørnesvingen) viewpoint is a bus ride up a series of hairpin bends, with a wide view back down the fjord. Dalsnibba, higher up, sits at almost 1,500 metres and provides views over several valleys. The Norwegian Fjord Centre in the village covers the geology of the area. Abandoned farms on the cliff faces are visible from the water. Local restaurants serve Arctic char and raspeball (potato dumplings). Bring a waterproof jacket because the weather shifts quickly.
