About Hellesylt

Hellesylt sits at the head of the Sunnylvsfjord, a village of about 260 people where the Hellesyltfossen waterfall drops through the middle of town. The cruise pier makes stepping off easy, though tender service runs when multiple ships visit. The surrounding cliffs rise steeply, and the fjord water reflects them on calm days. The air smells of pine and salt. The village itself takes about 15 minutes to walk end to end. The waterfall is the focal point, visible from the bridge in the centre. A popular option is the ferry to Geiranger, which crosses the UNESCO-listed Geirangerfjord with its hanging waterfalls and abandoned farms clinging to the cliffs above. If you stay local, the walking paths above the village lead to good viewpoints. There's a small café and gift shop near the pier, but don't expect much in terms of shopping.
