Molde sits on the northern shore of the Romsdalsfjord and is called the City of Roses because of its mild Gulf Stream climate. The Molde Panorama, a view of 222 snow-capped peaks across the fjord, is the town's main selling point, best seen from the Varden viewpoint above town. You can walk up, take a taxi, or catch the seasonal Panorama Express train. The Romsdal Museum has an open-air collection of traditional Norwegian buildings. The Atlantic Road, a short drive from Molde, crosses eight bridges through dramatic coastal scenery and is worth the trip if you have the time. Trollstigen, the famous mountain road with hairpin bends and waterfall views, is another excursion option. In town, cafés serve skillingsboller and svele, traditional Norwegian pastries. The shops carry pewter, enamel, and Norwegian knitwear. The currency is the Norwegian krone, and credit cards are accepted almost everywhere. English is widely spoken.
