Nuku'alofa is the capital of Tonga, the last remaining Polynesian kingdom. The Royal Palace, a Victorian-era wooden building on the waterfront, is the official residence of the King and can be viewed from outside but not entered. The town is small and flat, with a few churches, government buildings, and the Talamahu Market, where locals sell fruit, vegetables, and tapa cloth from covered stalls. The Mapu'a 'a Vaea Blowholes on the island's south coast shoot seawater through holes in the coral rock, and they're best visited when the swell is up. Anahulu Cave has stalactites and a natural pool for swimming. The Langafonua women's co-operative sells woven handicrafts. Tongan food includes root vegetables, fresh seafood, and coconut in various forms. English is widely spoken alongside Tongan. The currency is the Pa'anga.
