You get off in Civitavecchia (Rome), which is a good excuse to tack on a few days on land. There's a new port every day, so you'll do your relaxing on board in the evenings rather than during dedicated sea days. The route threads through 5 countries along the Western Mediterranean coast: Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, Greece and Italy. You get around 10 hours in each port, which is enough for an excursion, lunch, and some wandering around on your own. When you're not ashore, There are 14 restaurants on Norwegian Gem, so you'd need to double up a few evenings to try them all in 7 nights.
