Somewhere around day five the ship stops being transport and starts being home. This 18-night sailing from Vancouver on September 16, 2026 visits Sitka, Hubbard Glacier and Valdez, with additional stops along the Alaska. The first couple of days are at sea, which gives you time to settle in and get to know the ship before the ports begin. Even the open-water days are scenic here, with mountains on either side and blue ice in the distance. Most ports give you about 9 hours, so you can do more than just tick off the main sights. As for the ship itself, Zaandam takes the food seriously, with 6 restaurants to choose from. 4 are included, and the rest are worth the splurge. By night three you start recognising faces; by night ten you're swapping numbers. That's the magic of a longer sailing. A proper voyage for people who like to take their time and hate rushing through destinations. Pro tip: fly in the day before. Vancouver has plenty to offer, and you'll board relaxed instead of rushed. Being shoulder season helps: golden light, comfortable weather, and shorter queues at the popular spots.
