Oslo sits at the head of the Oslofjord, and ships dock at terminals in the city centre. The Oslo Opera House, with its sloped roof you can walk on, is one of the first things you see. City Hall, where the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded each December, overlooks the harbour. The city is compact enough that many attractions are within walking distance of the port. The Viking Ship Museum on the BygdΓΈy peninsula has three original Viking vessels, though it's been undergoing renovation. The Munch Museum, a newer building, houses most of Edvard Munch's work including The Scream. The Vigeland Sculpture Park has over 200 sculptures by Gustav Vigeland spread across a large open park. Karl Johans gate is the main pedestrian street running from the Royal Palace to the Central Station. Norwegian food is expensive: expect to pay well above European averages for meals. Norwegian krone is the currency.
