La Digue is one of the smaller inhabited islands in the Seychelles, and most people get around by bicycle. Ships anchor offshore and you tender to La Passe, the main settlement, a handful of roads lined with takamaka trees and small shops. The island has no traffic lights and very few cars. The pace is genuinely slow. Anse Source d'Argent is the famous beach: white sand between massive granite boulders with shallow, warm water. It appears on every Seychelles postcard for good reason. Grand Anse on the far side of the island is wilder and less visited. Rent a bicycle at the harbour and you can cover the whole island in a few hours. The Veuve Nature Reserve protects the black paradise flycatcher, a rare bird found only here. Food is Creole: grilled fish, octopus curry, and fruit from the garden. The currency is Seychellois Rupee, though euros are widely accepted.
