Victoria is the capital of Seychelles, sitting on the northeast coast of Mahé, the main island. It's one of the smallest capitals in the world. The clock tower in the centre is a replica of London's Vauxhall Clock Tower. The Sir Selwyn Selwyn-Clarke Market sells fish, spices, fruit, and souvenirs under one roof and is the liveliest spot in town. Ships dock at the port or anchor and tender nearby. Mahé's best beaches are spread around the island, and a car or taxi is needed to reach them. Beau Vallon on the northwest coast is the most popular. The Morne Seychellois National Park covers the mountainous interior with hiking trails through tropical forest. The Tea Factory on the road to the south coast has an old-fashioned tea plantation and views. Creole cooking uses fish, coconut, and local spices: try grilled red snapper or octopus curry. The Seychellois Rupee is the currency, though euros are widely accepted.
