About Benoa

Benoa is Bali's main cruise port, located on the Bukit Peninsula in the island's south. The port area itself is functional rather than scenic, but the rest of Bali is close by road. Ubud, the cultural centre with its rice terraces and monkey forest, is about 90 minutes north. The beach towns of Seminyak and Kuta are 30 minutes west, and the cliffside Uluwatu Temple is 40 minutes south. Balinese Hindu temples are everywhere, and you'll need a sarong to enter most of them, usually available for loan at the entrance. The local food is worth seeking out beyond hotel restaurants: try babi guling (spit-roast pork) at a warung in Ubud, or fresh grilled fish at Jimbaran Bay's beachfront stalls at sunset. Drivers can be hired for the day at reasonable rates, which is the easiest way to cover ground. The currency is Indonesian rupiah.
