New York hardly needs an introduction. The Manhattan Cruise Terminal sits on the West Side around 46th Street, putting you within walking distance of Times Square, the Theatre District, and Central Park. The Brooklyn terminal at Red Hook is quieter, with a free ferry to lower Manhattan and views of the Statue of Liberty from the dock. Either way, the density of things to do per square block is unmatched. If you have a single day, pick a neighbourhood instead of trying to cover everything. The High Line, a former elevated rail line turned park, runs through Chelsea and the Meatpacking District. Grand Central Terminal is worth seeing just for the ceiling. Dollar pizza slices are a real thing and a reasonable lunch. The subway costs $2.90 per ride and goes essentially everywhere. Cabs are plentiful below 96th Street, and Uber works the same as anywhere else.
