About Agadir

Agadir was almost entirely rebuilt after a devastating earthquake in 1960, so it lacks the old medina atmosphere of cities like Marrakech or Fez. What it does have is an 8km beach, consistent sunshine, and a relaxed pace. The kasbah ruins on the hilltop above town survived the quake and offer wide views over the bay and the modern city below. The souk (Souk El Had) is large and sells everything from spices and argan oil to leather goods and pottery. Haggling is expected, and starting at about half the asking price is normal. Camel rides along the beach are available and are exactly as touristy as they sound, but kids enjoy them. The seafood at the port-side restaurants is fresh and inexpensive, especially the grilled sardines. Taxis use meters in theory, but agreeing on a fare beforehand saves arguments.
