Port Denarau is a marina and resort complex on Denarau Island, connected to Fiji's main island of Viti Levu by a short causeway near Nadi. The cruise terminal is modern and well-equipped. The surrounding area is dominated by resorts, a golf course, and a shopping strip with restaurants and bars. It doesn't feel much like Fiji outside the resort zone. Day trips to the Mamanuca or Yasawa Islands are the main draw: fast catamarans leave from the marina for beach and snorkelling excursions. On the mainland, the Garden of the Sleeping Giant has tropical orchids and walking paths. The village of Nadi is about 15 minutes away and has a colourful market and a Hindu temple. Try kokoda (raw fish in coconut cream) or a lovo feast if one is offered. The Fijian dollar is the currency, and a warm "Bula!" is the standard greeting.
